Congressman Scott DesJarlais, who represents the 4th District of Tennessee which includes Shelbyville, home of the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration, recently sent a letter to USDA-APHIS opposing their proposed rule and supporting the efforts of the industry. Rep. DesJarlais’ letter points out the deficiencies in the proposed rule issued by APHIS and seeks a solution based on sound science and objective inspection protocols.  DesJarlais’ letter criticizes the prohibition of the equipment currently allowed and points out the devastating economic impact of such prohibitions.

Rep. DesJarlais has spent considerable time at horse shows and in barns over the last several years learning more about the industry and its importance in his district. DesJarlais has been one of the strongest supporters of the industry and The Celebration. Click here to view his letter to APHIS commenting on the proposed rule.
