At the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ & Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA) annual banquet on December 2, 2016, State of Tennessee Department of Agriculture Commissioner Jai Templeton announced a grant to ensure the success of Project Pegasus. Project Pegasus is an initiative of the TWHBEA Foundation, dedicated to determining scientifically proven, objective tests that will guarantee the welfare of our horses.

The grant will fund a symposium of world renowned medical and equine experts, who will examine and determine the best practices to achieve this long sought after goal.

“Project Pegasus,” announced in February of this year, has three objectives. The primary objectives is that every Tennessee Walking Horse shown in competition is safe, sound, and healthy. The second objective is to guarantee a scientifically objective, fair, predictable, and accurate pre-show inspection. The final objective is a healthy and vibrant show circuit.
