PAST Act introduced in Senate

Unites States Senators Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Mark Warner (D-VA) introduced the PAST Act today, seeking to amend the Horse Protection Act. Senators Crapo and Warner are working in conjunction with the Humane Society of the United States and other animal rights groups to remove legal equipment from show horses that have been repeatedly proven to not harm horses through scientific studies.

Celebration names judges for Fun Show

The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration has selected Rollie Beard, Brent Grider and Kenny Smith to adjudicate the 49th annual Spring Fun Show, scheduled for May 23-25 at the Calsonic Arena in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Each night’s performances begin at 6 p.m.

Obituary – Nellie Brantley

Graveside services for Mrs. Nellie Jay Brantley, age 93, of Wartrace, TN, will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with Bro. Tom Brantley officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 12:00 PM until 1:45 PM on Saturday, March 23 at Manchester Funeral Home.

With heavy hearts, it was reported that 1997 World Grand Champion Generator’s Santana was humanely laid to rest March 10. He was foaled Oct. 8, 1991. Santana had dealt with EPM for several years and lived and fought well.

Oldies but Goodies: Many walking horses stand the test of time in the show ring

One of the most special aspects of the Tennessee Walking Horse is the longevity they demonstrate when it comes to their show ring careers. While in many breeds it’s not unusual for a horse to retire in his mid-teen years, the walking horse is known for standing the test of time. It’s not uncommon to hear of one competing at age 20.
