Congressman Scott DesJarlais visited Shelbyville on January 19, 2023, and made a stop at Callaway Stables as part of his trip. DesJarlais visited with Allan Callaway and John Allan Callaway and discussed the Tennessee Walking Horse industry and the current legislative and regulatory environments in Washington D.C. Celebration director Jeffrey Howard and Celebration CEO Warren Wells also visited with DesJarlais at Callaway Stables.
“I always enjoy the chance to see first-hand the great care owners and trainers take of their Tennessee Walking Horses. I am so appreciative of the folks at Callaway Stables for giving me the opportunity to ride one of their horses yesterday. This industry has a huge impact on our local and state economy and I’m glad to see the tradition carried on through multiple generations,” said DesJarlais.

DesJarlais rode Nevermore, the current World Champion Aged Mares and Reserve World Grand Champion Youth Mares & Geldings, as part of his visit. It was the first performance Tennessee Walking Horse that DesJarlais had ever ridden. In addition, Hannah Russell, DesJarlais’ Legislative Director also rode Nevermore.

“Congressman Scott DesJarlais is a strong supporter of The Celebration and the Tennessee Walking Horse industry. He always prioritizes a visit with us when he is in town and we are very grateful for his friendship. It was very exciting when he asked to ride a performance horse and jumped up there without hesitation,” said Wells.
