In the early morning hours of May 17th, 2026, Granny Jean Fowler passed on from this life peacefully in her sleep.

Born on December 14, 1929 to Cecil and Florence Head, Jean saw every era, wars, peace, recession, progress, and technological evolution. Her partner in this journey was her loving husband, Joe W. Fowler, whom she married at 19 on July 4, 1949, and whose side she never left. Together, they had three beautiful children; Vickie, Frita, and Nancy, who their world revolved around. Jean took great pride in her role as mother, traveling the world with her children, cooking and baking at every turn, and instilling her girls with her infectious smile and nurturing spirit. She carried this energy forth to her grandchildren, who revered her as Granny Jean, and this would be her name for eternity to all those who knew her.

To know her was truly to love her. Her bright smile lit up every room she entered and her dazzling sense of humor endeared her to even the most resistant foes. If her smile and laugh couldn't break you down, her strawberry cake and fudge pie sure would. Granny Jean never met a stranger and never took no for an answer when she set her mind to something.

She was a lifelong supporter of the University of Tennessee Lady Vols, traveling all over the country to watch "the girls" play, even following them to the Final Four as she underwent chemo. She was an avid bowler, often embarassing the younger athletes in her league. She played a mean hand of cards and was quick to poke her tongue out at you in jest. Granny Jean shared in many hobbies throughout her life, but ultimately, animals were her true passion. Be it a dog, a potbelly pig that Papa Joe brought home, a nervous goat, a duck, or of course, a horse; Granny Jean loved animals and the nurturing energy she gave to her family radiated out to her animals as well. She was a Tennessee Walking Horse owner, breeder, and exhibitor for decades, raising many champions and supporting her daughters' love for the horses, as well. One of the true joys of her last few years was returning to the show ring at 92, on her mare Boston Bay, to win a class at the Cornersville Horse Show, in the field behind the high school she attended.

Granny Jean never did anything halfway. She poured her whole heart into everyone and everything she did. She will be sorely missed by her family, but her legacy will carry on in the overwhelming love she gave to everyone that they will continue to share.

She is preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Florence; her husband, Joe W. Fowler; her daughter, Frita Ann Fowler; son-in-law, Michael Moneymaker; and grandson, Jeff Moneymaker. She is survived by her daughters, Vickie Moneymaker and Nancy Evans and husband Craig; Grandchildren, Chris Moneymaker and wife Christy, Brandi Moneymaker-Sides and husband Zak, Fowler Evans and wife Morgan, and Anne Evans and fiancé Alex; Great-Grandchildren, Ashley, Taylor, Hayden, Will, Franklyn, Zoey, and Ellie.
