On Wednesday, February 23, The Black Night Shade was rushed to renowned vet clinic Rood and Riddle in Lexington, Kentucky. According to Larry Lowman of Bridlewood Farm, The Black Night Shade woke Wednesday morning showing mild signs of distress. After conferring with veterinarians, The Black Night Shade was rushed to Lexington, Kentucky where he was placed under the care of Dr. Hopper at Rood and Riddle Vet Clinic.

Dr. Hopper diagnosed the 2004 World Grand Champion with a type of colic and immediately began medical treatment. He has not had to undergo any surgery, and is responding well to the medical treatment. Thursday morning according to Dr. Hopper, he is resting well and Dr. Hopper is very optimistic about his full recovery because he received such prompt treatment and has responded to treatment so quickly.
