Still a Success Despite Being Rescheduled…Busting Special Tops Strawberry Festival
by Lauren Abernathy
HUMBOLDT, Tenn. - At 6:30p.m. on the dot, Patrick Thomas and WC High Fashion Statement entered the ring carrying the American flag for owners Pat and Jamie Gardner. This was the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival’s 72nd annual show. Fred and Vicki Benjamin, owners of 2008 WGC Skyanide, hosted the event. Michael Daniels was the judge for the evening with Chris Zahnd by his side apprenticing. As always, there were wonderful fried bar-b-que, bologna sandwiches and irresistible strawberry shortcake.
There were a total of 134 entries for the show that was rescheduled from earlier in the month due to heavy storms throughout Tennessee. Six horses answered the gate call for the Walking Horse Stake class. Busting Special and Jimmy McConnell wore the strawberries and roses out for Larry and Farrah McAlexander. Reserve was awarded to Jazz On Bourbon with Joseph Abernathy for Danny and Lisa Palmer.
