SPRINGFIELD, MO. - If you could tear your eyes from the television in the hottest month of college basketball, then the place to be was the Midwest Walking Horse Trainers’ Association Second Annual Spring Kick-Off Party at the Southwest Missouri State University William H. Darr Agricultural Center March 17, 2002 in Springfield, Missouri.

The Trainers’ Association is the first organization outside of the University allowed to conduct an event at the Ag Center. This proved to be a good centralized location, drawing more members than last year. Everyone was encouraged to bring a contribution to the buffet-style lunch and any horse, young or aged, to gain arena experience or simply to strut their stuff.

The youngsters of our breed were the spotlight entertainment, sparking rail-side conversation among the spectators about the latest news locally as well as nationwide. Curt Caldwell Stables, Jerry Manes Stables, Huffman Family Stables, and Steve Davis were among the trainers in the irons who brought their up-and-coming talent to be enjoyed by all. Although the sky was cloudy and the temperatures in the brisk 60s, this St. Patrick Day’s event attracted a lot of new faces as well as the skilled experience of our local trainers and exhibitors.

For our local members, whether your first show is in Tennessee in the upcoming weeks or at the MWHTA Spring Show April 20, it was obvious at this event the spirit and enthusiasm were as high as ever here in Missouri.
