Copyright Status Update

Doug Shiflet has informed our office that he no longer plans to begin charging copyright fees as of April 1. Shiflet will continue to operate under his former arrangement until further notice.

There has been no change in the status of agreements with the other two photographers who still plan to charge copyright fees this season. Sandra Hall will begin charging her customers $10 per picture each time it is used in the publications beginning April 15. We have not had an update from Linda Wollaber’s attorney as to her plans.

Howard Schatzberg, Casey McBride, Avis Girdler, and now Doug Shiflet had planned to adopt these same fees for all uses of photographs in the publications including first time use, but have since returned to their previous arrangements where no such charges exist.

Thus, Wa;ling Horse Report will require copyright releases from Linda Wollaber and Sandra Hall (effective April 15) to the horse show or to the exhibitor.

Walking Horse Report is also compiling a comprehensive list of professional photographers and their contact information so that horse show managers are aware of which photographers are charging their customers copyright fees and which are not. Professional photographers who would like to verify that they are included in this list can fax their contact information to 931-684-8196.
