Equine Obituary – El Zorro’s Star

El Zorro’s Star, a distinguished Tennessee Walking Horse stallion, passed away on February 22, 2025. Born on April 28, 2007, he was sired by José José and out of the esteemed mare, World Grand Champion Pusher’s Evening Star. Throughout his illustrious career, El Zorro’s Star achieved significant accolades, including:
• 2013 World Champion Owner Amateur Gentleman Show Pleasure
• 2013 Reserve World Grand Champion Owner Amateur Show Pleasure
• 2014 World Champion Owner Amateur Gentleman Show Pleasure
His excellence extended to his progeny, earning him the title of TWHBEA Ascending Sire of the Year for three consecutive years: 2020, 2021 and 2022. Notable offspring include World Grand Champion and World Champion Zorro Jr., World Grand Champion and multi-World Champion Catherine Zeta-Jones and World Champion Simply Country as well as other notable champions: Auggi, Capella, Capistrano, It’s Sirius, This Heart of Mine, Zorro Escarlata, The Way Maker and Zorro’s Jazzy Lady.
El Zorro’s Star was bred by Tommy McGee and was selected by the Laughlin Family as a yearling. Later selected by the Compton Family where he was shown and won his World Grand and World Championships!
In the fall of 2016, Zorro went to Spencer Benedict Stables to begin his breeding career. Where he remained from 2016 to 2021. In February of 2023, Zorro was purchased by the Jacobs family and returned to Spencer Benedict Stables. Zorro had a big personality who received dedicated care from Spencer and Carrie Benedict, along with the team at Spencer Benedict Stables. His legacy as a champion and sire will be cherished and remembered within the Tennessee Walking Horse community.
