The Golden Scepter passed on Sunday, July 25th at the age of 10, due to colic.

The Golden Scepter was bred and raised by James Cain and purchased by Ward McKnight as two-year-old.  The young bay chestnut stallion by Coin’s Spun Gold was started by Josh Taylor and later moved to Jackie McConnell.  As a four-year-old, Scepter was relocated to the Midwest area where he dominated open classes under the direction of Curt Caldwell and Wade and Margaret Hickman.

The Golden Scepter caught the eye of Ted and Glenda Nichols in 2008 and was purchased for their son, Brad, to campaign in amateur classes.  Honors achieved by this pair include the 2009 Walking Horse Report High Point title in the Open Amateur division, the 2009 Missouri State Fair Amateur Stake title as well as many other individual and high point awards. The Golden Sceptor was trained by Nichols family and he will be sadly missed by the entire family.
