Mark McGwire, one of the outstanding two-year-olds in
the 2006 season, passed away Monday, Nov. 27, 2006 at a veterinary
clinic. Mark McGwire was owned and loved by the Opal Moody family and
was trained at Whitter Stables in Collierville, TN.
Mark McGwire enjoyed a successful show season winning
five blues and one reserve this year. Jackie McConnell showed him to
dual blues at the Germantown Charity Show in June and won both the
WHTA Riders’ Cup Two-Year-Old Stallions classes at The International
Grand Championship Performance Show and at the Delta Fall Classic
recently. He was a pet and will be deeply missed. He had a high fever
and Dr. Mark Akin was called immediately. He took him to his clinic
where he passed away that evening. The causes are not known at this
time.
