James Matthew Dick, six-year-old son of walking horse trainer Buddy Dick, underwent surgery for scoliosis, a condition defined by curvature of the spine, on Sept. 22 in Miami, Fla.

Matthew's condition was discovered when he was about 18 months of age. When casting and a brace failed to correct his condition, doctors decided to operate. The 3 and 1/2 hour surgery involved placing two steel rods in Matthew's back.

According to Buddy, Matthew, who loves horses and playing ball, is doing great and is expected to make a full recovery. Buddy went on to say how much he appreciated all the inquiries about Matthew. "I want to thank everyone who expressed their concern and let them know he is doing great," said Buddy.
