The National Horse Show Commission held their monthly Board meeting on Monday, February 23, 2009. The following actions were taken:
• Four appeals were held with two being overturned and two upheld.
• Andrew Messick, Executive Vice President, informed the Board that on February 13, 2009 a Versatility Clinic had been held by Dr. Doyle Meadows and Dr. Dave Whitaker for licensed NHSC Judges and that it was well attended.
• Mr. Messick advised there had also been a Judges Applicant School on February 14, 2009 with 20 new applicants in attendance.
• Mr. Messick reminded the Board that a question/answer session in regard to thermography is to be held at Calsonic Arena on Friday, February 27, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Questions were raised about a scar rule session for the WHOA and WHTA. Mr. Messick and Mr. Neal both advised they had sent a request to Dr. Cezar for a scar rule session to be held before the National Walking Horse Trainers’ Show, and were both informed that it would be impossible to have a scar rule clinic until the end of March or first part of April.
• Dr. Mike Harry updated the Board on his findings from USEF in regard to prices for blood testing, wherein the Board discussed requesting a government grant for the funds to get blood testing implemented.
• Pleasure and Performance Rules Committee appointments were made from both the WHTA and the WHOA.
• Judges Committee appointments were made from both the WHTA and the WHOA.
• The next Board meeting was scheduled for Monday, March 30, 2009 at 9:00 a.m.
