Obituary - Charles David Sanderson

Charles David Sanderson, father of Walking Horse trainer, Clay Sanderson, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on August 21st, 1945 in Monrovia, Alabama and was 71 years old.

Mr. Sanderson was owner of Sanderson Trucking in Pulaski for 16 years. Along with trucking, he had a passion for baseball, where he spent many hours at practice or at the local Exchange Park, mentoring the young men of Pulaski, some of who continue to coach and guide today.

His vow to teaching the game was not limited to coaching. He served on the Exchange Park Board of Directors, and as Vice President, before following his son, Clay, to Babe Ruth to continue his coaching and commitment to the youth of Pulaski. CD’s passion did not stop with baseball. He enjoyed farming, working on a car or truck, and was active in the Tennessee Walking Horse community. His compassion for these things will be felt for years to come from his willingness to serve his community.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sherry, and his cherished children: Christy Sanderson Pulley and husband Chad of Overland Park, Kansas; Tarah Sanderson Holt, and husband Jamie, Clay Sanderson and Kasie Caldwell, and Shelby Sanderson, all of Pulaski, two grandchildren; brother, Ronald Sanderson, of Pulaski. Special friends Stanley, Philip, Amy, & Colton Trimble and Keith Garrison. Numerous other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Mary Blankenship Sanderson and John David Sanderson, a son, Shawn Keith Sanderson and sister Francis Sanderson McLemore.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 6:00pm in the chapel of Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home. A reception will follow at Trimble Stables, 335 Malone Road, Pulaski.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Exchange Park, c/o First National Bank, PO Box 289, Pulaski, TN 38478, or F.A.S.T INC., to assist in the legal funding of Preserving, Promoting and Protecting the Tennessee Walking Show Horse, c/o FAST Inc., PO Box 259, Shelbyville, TN 37162/www.fastwalkingshowhorse.org
