David Montell Smith, Jr., age 59, resident of the District 15 Community in Fayette County and husband of Shirley Smith, departed this life Sunday afternoon, July 24, 2016 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Smith will be conducted at 3 P.M. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. David Reeves, pastor of the Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville, officiating. Personal remarks will be given by Danny Ray Hill. A visitation for Mr. Smith will be from 1 to 3 P.M. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Smith was born April 9, 1957 in Somerville. He received his education at Fayette Academy and was a lifelong resident of Fayette County. He was married July 29, 1977 to the former Shirley Hill and he was a member of the Parks Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Smith was employed as a water plant operator in Somerville before retiring for health reasons. He enjoyed riding and training Tennessee Walking Horses, working on his farm and driving his classic cars. Mr. Smith was very fond of his pet dogs, Lizzie and Annie.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 39 years, Shirley Hill Smith of the District 15 Community; two daughters, Lindsey Smith of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Casey Smith LaRue and her husband, Derrick, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and his sister, Brenda Oliver and her husband, Larry, of Somerville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Montell Smith and Elizabeth Parks Smith.
