Mr. Henry Tipton “Tip” Thompson, age 89, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Christian Care Center of Bedford County.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel.  Reverend Bryan Elliott will officiate. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Willow Mount Cemetery.

He was born July 25, 1920, in Bedford County, to the late Robert Kerry and Maggie Moore Thompson.  He was longtime owner/operator of Tip Thompson’s Menswear, not only serving Shelbyville and Bedford County, but numerous out of state customers. He was known for his personal service to all who shopped with him.  Tip’s store was a favorite with guests attending the Tennessee Waling Horse Celebration.

He was an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, a 60 year member of the Shelbyville Rotary Club, and a Paul Harris Fellow.  He was inducted in the Rotary History and Heritage International Hall of Fame.  He was a founding member of Riverbend Country Club and a Deacon and member of First Christian Church.

Golf occupied his leisure time for many years. Playing golf then turned to gardening and working in his yard.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Kerry, (R.K.) Thompson, and a sister Mary Elizabeth Williams.

He is survived by a his wife, Becky Nichols Thompson, of Shelbyville, a brother, William Morton “Bill” Thompson, and his wife Naomi, of Shelbyville, and a sister, Dorothy Ann Wheelon, of California.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund.

Honorary pallbearers will be members and former members of the Shelbyville Rotary Club
