The walking horse community lost a dear friend this morning (Dec. 9, 2013) with the death of Dude Prestwood at 3:45 a.m. at his home in Jackson, Miss. Prestwood, age 74, had been under Hospice care and succumbed after a lengthy and very courageous battle with cancer.
 
Prestwood was the manager and trainer at Prestwood Stables in Jackson for over 40 years. He was the Chairman and Manager of the Mississippi Charity Horse Show in Jackson for over 20 years. He rode Carbon Copy’s Star to the 1969 Three-Year-Old World Championship. He was a friend and mentor to many trainers, owners and exhibitors over the years and will be greatly missed.
 
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean; their two daughters and four grandchildren.
 Visitation with the family will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, Miss. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeshore Church in Byram with burial to follow at Lakewood Cemetery in Jackson.
