Hugh Allen Johnson peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on July 23, 2024. He was born on October 8th, 1937 in Gadsden, AL and was a 1955 graduate of Gadsden High School. He graduated from Howard (Samford) College in 1961 and began his career as a pharmacist thereafter until his retirement. He owned and operated Hugh’s Pharmacy, Inc. with his wife Ann for 50+ years. Hugh truly loved and appreciated his coworkers and many customers.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, C.B. Johnson and Fannie Mary Johnson and is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ann Hall Johnson, daughter Mary Garland (Johnson) Tucker, son Clay (Gwynn) Johnson of Knoxville, TN, and sister Cindy Stadler (Lewis). Hugh loved and was greatly loved by his six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to family, Hugh Allen is survived by very special friends Johnny Hamiter, Craig Jordan, and many others. The family would like to thank caregiver Karen Scott for her dedication and love to both Hugh and Ann.
Along with the love for his family, his passion was riding and showing his Tennessee Walking horses where he garnered many accolades and much success in the show ring.
We find comfort in knowing his legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
A private service was held at Union Hill Community Church on July 25, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Salvation Army or Union Hill Community Church.
He was buried with his boots on.
