Nancy DeLores Short (Minton), 62, of Richmond, the wife of Harlin “Pooch” Minton, and the daughter of Jesse N. Short (Nancy) and Margaret Helen Vanderpool Short, passed away Saturday morning, July 20, 2013, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a courageous battle with cancer.
           
Nancy was born in Richmond, Kentucky on February 7, 1951. She was valedictorian of graduating class at Madison High School. Upon graduation she attended Eastern Kentucky University. After working at Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home during high school, she worked at Fort Boonesboro State Park. She retired from EnerySys Corporation where she served as manager of the Human Resource Department.
           
Nancy was a kind and giving person, who made a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her smile, laugh and cheery disposition would brighten up the day of those she was around. Nancy served as a director of the Madison County Fair and Horse Show and was involved with all the pleasure and walking horse shows. She was active state wide in the walking horse community, serving as a director of the Bluegrass Pleasure and Walking Horse Association and former secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Kentucky Walking Horse Association. In addition to showing horses she tabulated the results of horse shows in Kentucky and surrounding states.
           
In addition to her husband and parents, Nancy is survived by a brother: Roger Short (Judy); step-brother: Greg Rose (Melissa), nephews: Chris Short (Liz), Brett Short, Eric Short, step-nephew: Ted Rose; step-nieces: Jessica Rose, Madison Rose, Jadyn Rose; great-niece: Laken Childress (Coty); great nephews: Tyler Short, Logan Short; step-sons: Joey Minton and Pete Minton; step-grandchildren: Joseph Minton, Josh Minton, Nikki Minton; and her constant, loyal loving canine companion, Summer Trix. She leaves behind a host of other loving relatives and numerous devoted friends.
           
Nancy was preceded in death by her brother: Scotty Lyn Short.
           
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Kenneth Bishop and Bro. Greg Lakes officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
           
Visitation will be after 3:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
           
Pallbearers will be: Chris Short, Brett Short, Eric Short, Tyler Short, Logan Short, Jack Short, Greg Rose and Joey Minton.
           
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Baptist Health, especially the Intensive Care Unit and to the staff of Hospice Care Plus, especially the Compassionate Care Center.
