Obituary - Willie Cook Jr.

Willie James Cook, Jr. age 52 passed away on March 2, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents Willie “Flip” Cook and Esther Horton Cook. He is survived by his wife, Shere’ Owens Cook, his children Jessica Cook, Willie Cook, III and Connor Cook, his grandson Henry Dixon, his stepson, Tyler Smith and his angel on earth, Courtney Owens. He is further survived by his siblings, Charles Cook, Pam Cook, David Cook and Laverne Cook Hull and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Willie was an excellent horse trainer having won numerous accolades, including many World Grand Championships. Visitation will be held Friday, Mar. 9 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Advantage Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Lilburn, Georgia. A memorial service will be held during the 2018 Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Georgia Transplant Foundation in Willie’s memory.

The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration recently hired Travis Emore to be the Director of Arena Operations and Events. Emore will directly oversee the operations of Cooper Steel Arena, as well as also function as a member of the senior leadership team at The Celebration. Emore comes to The Celebration from Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro.

President Bill Young is pleased to announce the Walking Horse Trainers’ Association office relocation to the historic Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration grounds has been completed.
