The 21st annual Gum Tree Classic Horse Show was held on October 23, 2000, at the Lee County Agri-Center in Verona, Miss. With beautiful fall weather and record-breaking temperatures in the upper 80s, horse show fans packed the showgrounds for the last Mid-South Horse Show Association show of the 2000 season.

A large crowd attended the event and were entertained by some of the area's finest show horses. There were 245 walking and racking entries. Each year the Altrusa International of Tupelo, Miss., sponsors the successful fund raiser to support their many local projects.

Tex Smith judged the 29 walking and racking classes. Handling the announcing duties was Perry Thomas, while Mike Farley served as ringmaster.

In the final class of the evening, Overdrawn and Jackie McConnell were champions in the Walking Stake, with reserve going to Stormy's Black Rain and Jim Sullivan.
