The Walking Horse Report will host an additional halftime event at this year’s Trainers vs. Trainers February Madness basketball game.  The event will be held in conjunction with the tournament on Feb. 22, 2008.  The Walking Horse Report has hosted another halftime event the previous two years and offered a front cover and back cover to winners.

This halftime event will continue in 2008 and allows two participants the opportunity to shoot for a front and back cover.  The first name drawn from the registrants gets 30 seconds to make a layup, free throw and three point shot.  If able to complete the challenge, the winner will receive a free back cover from the Report.  The second registrant drawn gets an opportunity to shoot a half-court shot for a free front cover.  Consolation prizes are awarded if either participant is not successful.

This year’s added event will be a “Youth Shootout” with a reward of $50 to the winning youth.  All youth ages 10-18 will participate in a free-throw shooting contest with the youth making the most shots taking home the $50 prize.

Also, Walking Horse Report will donate $5 for every made shot by all participating youth toward its scholarship program for industry youth. Walking Horse Report is in its second year of the scholarship program which donates $100 for every full page ad placed in the March 17, 2008 Amateur-Juvenile issue toward the scholarship.

In 2007, the scholarship fund was $2,200 which was evenly distributed in two $1,100 scholarships to Samantha Green, daughter of Walking Horse Trainer Jeff and Joyce Marie Green, and MiKenzie Brown.  “We are extremely pleased to be able to participate in this worthy cause again this year,” said Report Publisher Jeffrey Howard.  “The youth are a very important part of the future of the Walking Horse Industry and anything we can do to further help our scholarship program and promote education for our youth we are committed to doing.”

For more information on the scholarship and applications please contact the Report at 931-684-8123 or ward@horseworld.net.

February Madness will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Shelbyville Recreation Center on Friday, Feb. 22, 2008.  February Madness benefits Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and the Youth Council Members in Crisis fund.
