The Walking Horse Trainers’ Association launched the Riders’ Cup program in 2005. The program is designed to award monies to trainers for bringing and showing entries in open classes at horse shows across the industry. The increased entries in these classes has helped horse shows raise additional money and support their charitable organizations with the increased profits.

The program has been extremely successful since 2005 with over $1,000,000 awarded to trainers in the industry. The program expanded in 2012 and included the pleasure division. This expansion created more categories, all of which are sponsored increasing the pool of money to be awarded at year’s end.

This year the program has hit a record with 27 different open divisions having a Rider’s Cup category. The four new divisions in 2022 are Country Pleasure Two and Three-Year-Old, Five & Under Show Pleasure, Five & Under Park Pleasure and Five & Under Park Performance. The only category of the 27 without a sponsor is Five & Under Park Pleasure. For information on how to sponsor please email [email protected].
