Often times when people sell a horse, they wonder if they are sending their beloved four-legged friend to a good home. Kaye and Bruce Dempsey are no different, yet when they recently donated one of their horses to the Sheriff’s Boys Ranch in Foley, Ala., they knew their mare was going to a good home. Not only would the mare be well cared for, with her smooth gates and kind disposition typical of walking horses, she would give the young boys at the ranch a gentle ride.

The Alabama Youth Ranches take in abandoned, neglected and abused children and provide a living environment the children can call home. The Alabama Sheriffs' Youth Ranches is a charitable, nonprofit corporation, sponsored by the Alabama Sheriffs' Association and managed by a Board of Trustees. The Ranch program is funded almost entirely by private donations from concerned individuals, churches, civic clubs, corporations and foundations

The Dempseys encourage others to consider donating their horses to this cause as an alternative option. For more information on the program, go to www.sheriffsranch.org.
