LUCAS, Ky. - The South Central Walking Horse Association held their annual awards banquet at the Barren River Lodge in Lucas, Ky. The turnout was great with a live auction to start the event. John Tarter handled the auctioneering, keeping the crowd entertained with jokes. Many items were up for grabs, along with several stud fees that made the auction a success. The proceeds from the auction went to the scholarships that are given each year from the association. The association recognized 10 applicants for the 2007 scholarships.
Exhibitors, trainers, owners and spectators came from all over Kentucky and even Tennessee to join the fun at the South Central Banquet.
Over 30 divisions were recognized as well as several sportsmanship awards, which were voted on by the membership. Each year a contest is held to raise money for the association. A dance contest with eight couples started the fun after the awards. After showing off their moves, three judges picked three final couples. The final couples were Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hatchett, Derrick Butner and Ashley Shelton and Joe Herald and Shana Hughe,s with the winning couple being Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hatchett of Greensburg, Ky.
The association would like to thank all of the supporters of the banquet and for all of the items that were donated. They hope to see everyone back next year. The South Central Kentucky awards follow.
