Whitfield Set to Resign September 6th
Wednesday, August 31, 2016
Congressman Ed Whitfield (R-KY) has decided to resign from the House of Representatives effective September 6, 2016. Whitfield had previously decided not to run for re-election and Jamie Comer won the Republican primary for Whitfield's seat.
Whitfield cited as his reason for retiring to allow the next Congressman a head start. Whitfield introduced the PAST Act and faced ethics violations as a result of his wife's, a lobbyist for the Humane Society, access to his staff. A special election will be held to elect his successor.
