Dorothy Jean Simmons Kyle was born on November 2, 1937, to the late Hughie and Frances Simmons and was raised in Olive Hill, Tennessee. In 1954, she married Bobby Gene Beckham, and together they raised their daughters in Clifton, Tennessee, where Dorothy worked as a supervisor for Clifton Manufacturing Company.
