David Landrum, President of the Walking Horse Trainers Association, responded to the USDA Listening Session held Wednesday, February 8, in Shelbyville, Tennessee. “It was a very informative session that promoted better understanding between the industry and the USDA. Obviously we have some differences of opinion, but I respect Dr. Behre's personal views and appreciate the USDA's willingness to cooperate in an open exchange of ideas. We were glad to be included.”

As it relates to the joint DQP and VMO training which followed the Listening Session on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Landrum commented, “Joint training between the DQPs and the VMOs is a positive process that promotes better inspections. We need to continue to work together to come to a common understanding of the Horse Protection Act.”
