"A Celebration Christmas" Lights Up Shelbyville
Thursday, December 10, 2009
SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. - The lights are on, marking the renewal of another tradition in Shelbyville. "A Celebration Christmas" has begun and will run through the end of the year.
"The holiday light show is our gift to the community and surrounding area for what they do for us all year," said Celebration CEO Dr. Doyle Meadows. "Especially this year they worked so hard to help us make The Celebration(r) such a terrific event, so it seems right for us to add to their holiday season."
Members of the Celebration's grounds staff began work putting up the set pieces and strings of lights just after Halloween and work continued right up until the final day to make sure every bulb was lit.
"It is a big job, but our guys take a great deal of pride in making it look great," remarked Celebration Grounds Superintendent Wade Adams. "They look forward to this each year and hope that it is something that the community enjoys."
The display has grown over the years. The 2009 edition of "A Celebration Christmas" features over 80 different set pieces and over 100,000 lights.
"We've been doing this for fifteen years," reported Meadows. "We get a lot of comments from people all over middle Tennessee that enjoy the display every year.
The displays can be seen nightly along Celebration Drive from Madison Street (US 41) all the way up to Calsonic Arena.
