Dudley Rook Moore Jr., 87, of Byhalia, Miss., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown, Tenn. Moore was born Feb. 6, 1916, in Cockrum, Miss. He was a City of Byhalia alderman for eight years and the mayor of Byhalia for 20 years. Moore was a member of the Byhalia United Methodist Church, a charter member of Byhalia Lions Club, a charter member of Mississippi Aberdeen Angus Association, chairman and chief executive officer of Citizens Bank of Byhalia, and was a 57-year member of the Mississippi Bankers Association.

Moore owned Tennessee Walking Horses for many years. He was associated with the late Neil Robinson and had horses in training with Ray Gilmer. Moore was also a member of the Mississippi Walking Horse Association's Hall of Fame.

Dudley Moore was the son of Dr. Dudley R. Moore Sr. and Sadye Allen Moore. He is survived by his spouse, Frances Newsom Moore of Byhalia, Miss.; a son, Dudley Rook Moore, III of Holly Springs, Miss.; three daughters, Ellen Gammon of Memphis, Tenn., Susan Bonds of Byhalia, Miss., and Lyla Vinzant of Tunica, Miss.; a brother, Frank Moore of Byhalia, Miss.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dudley Rook Moore IV.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Holly Springs Funeral Home in Holly Springs, Miss. The funeral will be held at the Byhalia United Methodist Church in Byhalia, Miss. at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13.
