VERONA, Miss. - The Loraine Wesson Faith Haven Walking Horse Show was held on May 3, 2008, at the Lee County Agri-Center in Verona, Miss. The Faith Haven Board of Directors was the proud sponsors of this show. Faith Haven is an emergency shelter for children in the protective custody of the Mississippi Department of Human Services. It provides a safe, temporary home for children and youth. It is usually a 45-day stay for most of the children. Proceeds from the horse show give the additional support needed to provide services to these children as well as a safe, nurturing home for those who need them.

Once again, show officials produced a successful event that drew 238 entries. A large gallery of spectators were in attendance and they were entertained by some of the area’s finest contenders. Ronal Young of Bell Buckle, Tenn., judged the 30 classes. Mike Farley handled the duties of ringmaster. Charles Ritchie provided musical entertainment with his popular organ music. Sid Abernathy captured the evening on film as show photographer.

In the final class of the evening, Gen’s Major Event and Jimmy McConnell claimed the Faith Haven Walking Horse Stake title for owner John Alford.
