LURAY, Virg. - The Tri-State Walking Horse Association held it
s 21st annual horse show at the Luray Virginia Ruritan Club grounds on July 19-20. Bob Burris, Franklin, Tennessee judged the seventy-three classes with 300 entries and Robert Klinefelter, announcer, kept the show moving along. The two evening shows began with the American flag presentation by Marco Delawder and Mighty Appealing.
As the famous Walking Horse Stake climaxed the end of the show, He’s Ritz And Famous walked off with the red, white, and blue floral horseshoe with Jeff Hatcher in the irons for Judy Morrisett of Charleston, West Virginia. Coin’s Pure Pleasure with Roger Cubbage up for Louelle Cubbage walked off with the reserve honors.
The Roy Wagner Stables, Hagerstown, Maryland, visited the winner’s circle nine times during the two-day show. Although the Benny Johnson Stables and Jeff Hatcher Stables were no strangers to the circle, by taking home eight blue ribbons. Ron Curkendall Stables made the long trip from Murfreesboro, North Carolina and took their share of the bounty back to the Tar Heel State.
Exhibitors, owners, trainers, and even the DQPs enjoyed great food and music at a party hosted by Bill Shea of Summitpoint, West Virginia, Friday evening after the show.
