SALEM, Mo. - The fourth annual Rick Inman Memorial Gaited Horse Show was held on Aug. 1 in Salem, Mo. Twenty-seven classes played host to 66 entries of Tennessee Walking Horses and Missouri Fox Trotters, which was significantly up from 2008’s numbers. At last year’s show, USDA officials were present and show management felt the affects of it were still evident in the horse count for this year’s show. David Roberts, Salem, Mo., was responsible for the penciling of the cards for all classes.
Each year this show is put on by members of Rick Inman’s family as a tribute to his love and enjoyment of the Tennessee Walking Horse and showing. Brian Inman is especially involved in this endeavor. Jim Huffman directed Stroker’s Allen to the winner’s circle in the Open Stake class for Jim and Donna Huffman. The Park Pleasure Stake class was awarded to Jim Laughlin aboard Encore’s Shakin’ Lady for the 4-J Land and Cattle Co. Reserve in the class went to Jesse Laughlin and JFK’s Fancy Lady Leslie, also riding for 4-J.
This club had some extensive damage to its show grounds from a recent storm and the members’ time and effort was definitely noticeable to those in attendance. Hopefully, this low turnout will not discourage these dedicated members from continuing to put on this one-night show as it has been making great strides in quantity and quality of horses show in this part of the state.
