Humane Society Sues Amazon.com

Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, is being sued by the Humane
Society of the United States for violating animal protection laws by selling publications that encourage or promote cockfighting.  Amazon continues to sell the magazines, The Gamecock and Feathered Warrior, based on the First Amendment right to free expression.

The suit was filed in February and was amended last week based on a new law that makes it a felony to sponsor or exhibit an animal fight or buy, sell, transport or deliver weapons designed for cockfighting.

"Our view is that they are abetting criminal activity.  They wouldn't sell narcotics through a magazine or any other type of contraband through a magazine," said Wayne Pacelle, president of HSUS.
