Curtis L. Wills, Jr. died on April 6, 2002, after a second courageous battle with cancer. He had been a cancer survivor for 22 years and devoted much of his energy and spare time to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
A lifelong resident of Nansemond County and Suffolk, Virginia, he was a retired farmer. Throughout his lifetime, the many friends that he made was always a joy to him.
Wills was a former member of the TWHBEA, and owned, trained, showed, and bred walking horses for 40 years. He showed primarily in the Virginia and North Carolina areas and owned such horses as The Southern Colonel, Go Boy’s Midnight Doll, June’s Delight, Ebony’s Merry Lad, Ebony’s Little Man, Ebony’s Ego, Magic’s Ali Baba, Bo Knows Cash, and The Wild Wave.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Harriet Steel Wills, one son, Brian Steel Wills and wife, Elizabeth Smiddy Wills of Wise, Virginia, one daughter, Betty Jean Wills of Norfolk, Virginia, and one sister, Janice Wills Babin and husband, Hank, of Orange City, Florida.
Funeral services were held on April 8, 2002 in Suffolk, Virginia.
