Odell Whitfield McConnell of Union City, Tenn., passed away July 24, 2003, at the age of 90. Born June 19, 1913, in Gibson County, Tenn., he was the son of the late John Hicks McConnell and the late Lilly Thursey Browning McConnell.

McConnell was highly connected with the walking horse industry for several years and was the owner of McConnell’s Walking Horse Farm in Union City, Tenn. He was a member of the Union City Presbyterian Church.

McConnell was preceded in death by his first wife, Modene Hammonds; a son, Paul Gene McConnell; three brothers; and six sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Doris McConnell of Union City, Tenn.; two sons Jimmy McConnell of Union City, Tenn., and his wife, Gail; and Jackie McConnell of Collierville, Tenn., and his wife, Cyndi; three grandchildren, Stacy Blackburn of Franklin, Tenn., Whitney Davis of Shelbyville, Tenn., and Jason McConnell of Franklin, Tenn.; two sisters, Lona B. Forrester of Union City, Tenn., and Mary Sanders also of Union City, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Alex Blackburn and Evan Blackburn both of Franklin, Tenn.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 26 at 11:00 a.m. at White-Ranson Funeral Home with Bobby Stewart officiating. The family will accept visitors Friday, July 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
