Robert Deutsch – Greensboro, North Carolina

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN THE TENNESSEE WALKING HORSE INDUSTRY?
The Tennessee Walking Horse has been part of my life for several years. I participated as a juvenile and amateur rider in the 70’s. I left the industry for 30 years to focus on raising a family and starting a career and returned in 2010.

WHAT HORSES DO YOU CURRENTLY OWN AND WHO ARE THEY IN TRAINING WITH?
Currently, I have two horses in training with Baucom Stables in Monroe, North Carolina; Mr. Country Gentleman and Von Miller. In addition, I have two horses in training with Trimble Stables in Pulaski, Tennessee; Zeta and The Country Lineman. I’m very proud of both training teams as all four of these horses are world grand champions.

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE PAST WORLD GRAND CHAMPION AND WHY?
It would have to be Mr. Country Gentleman as he has given us numerous blue ribbon rides around the big oval and several championship rides throughout the southeast.

IF THERE WAS ONE AREA OF THE INDUSTRY YOU COULD CHANGE OR RAMP UP, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
Continue to find ways to positively promote the breed and ultimately attract new owners and exhibitors. Additionally, I think it is very important to continue our education of the public on how versatile our Tennessee Walking Horse is.

IF YOU WERE NOT AT THE BARN OR A HORSE SHOW, WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING IN YOUR FREE TIME?
Spending time with family in North Carolina, Maryland and New Hampshire. Also playing pickle ball and doing yoga with my wife and friends.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE TV SHOWS, MOVIES OR NETFLIX FEATURES HAVE YOU BEEN BINGE
WATCHING DURING THE PANDEMIC?

Jeopardy, Saturday Night Live and Blacklist.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR SHOW CAREER THUS FAR?
Having the good fortune of riding under the spotlight at the Celebration on several occasions – What a wonderful feeling!

WHAT WORDS OF WISDOM CAN YOU GIVE TO THE HORSE INDUSTRY ON THE PANDEMIC?
Be patient and let’s work together continuing to follow CDC guidelines in this unprecedented time. We will learn from this pandemic and come out stronger.
