Rising Star Ranch and Amanda Winters teamed together to save an orphan foal by World Grand Champion Ted Williams.

On Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Rising Star Ranch, Winters’s mare, Striding To The Ritz, had complications giving birth to her Lined With Cash foal, and ultimately lost the beautiful black colt. Winters decided to take her mare home following this tragedy.

On Saturday, May 16, 2009, Caroline In The City, owned by Rising Star Ranch, went into labor with a Ted Williams colt. Unfortunately, complications of a prolapsed uterus took the life of the mare, leaving the beautiful sorrel colt an orphan. After long hours under the care of Dr. Jim Baum of Shelbyville, Tenn., the colt looked like he would make it and the search was on for a recipient mare to try to take this orphan colt.

Debbie Eichler, owner of Rising Star Ranch, decided to call Winters to see if she would be willing to bring her mare back and see if she would take the orphan foal. After several things were done to give the mare’s scent to the orphan foal, the mare accepted the baby.

At five days old, the colt is growing stronger everyday and the mare is loving her baby.
