Russ Thompson Stables has been battling the intense flames of the California wildfires since last Thursday, but today, according to Thompson, “It’s over.” The fire surrounding the tiny mountain community where the stables are located has been contained. The barn is still standing and they have successfully put out the fire that surrounded their property on all sides.

“I knew we could fight the fire,” Thompson said, “but the air quality was what caused us to evacuate the horses.” Thompson and his crew stayed to battle the flames even after authorities ordered a mandatory evacuation of the area.

Highways in the area are beginning to reopen, but authorities are still not allowing traffic into the community as they are still working to put out a few remaining hot spots.

Thompson will begin moving generators for power and water to the barn in tomorrow and says he plans to begin moving the horses back as well.
