By Christy Rogers-Brown SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. - This year’s rendition of the Walking To Make A Difference Horse Show brought quality horses, excited spectators and a feeling of pride to the walking horse world. The show was dedicated to the memory of walking horse friend, father and husband Sam Caldwell. Daughter Kasie Caldwell carried the American Flag aboard 19-year-old Coffee’s Moonshine. Kasie Caldwell and wife Benita Caldwell were honored during the opening ceremony, and Kasie was presented with a horse shoe ring. In addition to the touching dedication, proceeds from the show went to benefit The Center for Family Development.

The honorable Paul Watlington judged the event held on May 21, 2003, at the Bedford County Agriculture Center. Two hundred and fifty three entries graced the arena during the 31 class show. The event included three big academy classes and a walking horse trainers riding mules class, just for fun. Willing children were persuaded to sing the national anthem with the talented Sammy Day to open the event. Three competitive Academy classes were held at the beginning of the show. Callie Haley rode Bold Strokes Attraction to the win in the Academy Youth Padded class. This winning entry is owned by Burl Compton and is prepared by John Puckett. Sarah Margaret McGee and Gen's Ten High were the reserve champions in the class. Lisa Pritchett topped the Academy Adult Riders Lite-Shod class aboard Irresistible Dare. Faye Lynn Coffey owns the champion horse, who is prepared by Pritchett for competition. Si Si Senior topped the very competitive Academy Youth Riders Lite-Shod class with Kelsey Barnes in the irons for Gerald and Barnes and Blue Ribbon Stables.

Formac, Finish Line and Blackhawk Farms went home with four blue ribbon winners a piece. Erica Hartlein started the night off on the right track for Blackhawk Farms. The Grand Hot Shot was the Pony Specialty champion. This entry is owned by Ying and Hartlein. Maria Derickson and Big Guy Design were the reserve champions in the class and made a good ride for owner Patty Marek. Keely Sale wore out the blue in the Youth Riders 11 and Under class. Carrying the rider to the winner’s circle was Design’s Masterpiece. Total Control and Jordan Kidd carried out the reserve ribbon for Derickson training facility. Jaclyn Tillman made the second win of the evening in the Ladies Specialty class aboard He’s Wired. Wired No Doubt followed closely behind with Jacqueline Elliot in the irons to take home the reserve ribbon for owner Jack Heffington and trainer Sam McLaughlin. Look Who’s In Command wore out the blue for the third win of the night for Blackhawk Farm. Jaclyn Tillman was in direction during the Amateur Riders 15.2 and Under Specialty class for owner Carl E. Smith, Inc. Candy Whitehead Green rode Gossip, the reserve champion in the class, under the guidance of husband/trainer Charlie Green.

Bob Medina and Formac Stables were quick to get the night kicked off in blue ribbon style with Orient Express. Medina made the first of three blue ribbon rides in the Amateur Riders on Three-Year-Old Mares and Geldings class. Debbie Eichler was reserve in the class for Rising Star Ranch. Regals Lady Of Royalty carried Medina to his second blue of the evening in the Amateur Riders on Lite-Shod Horses Four Years and Over class. Gen’s Knight Threat and Dr. Judy Moore were another threat to competitors in the class and made the reserve win for Moore and Foust Farm. Jimmy McConnell made the winning performance aboard Our Chance By JFK and wore out the blue in the Two-Year-Old MASCUP class. Lynn and Kay Barnes own the winning entry. Watts Up claimed the reserve win in the class with Travis Adams in the irons for owner Carol Ann Gavin. Mystery Woman and Bob Medina were no secret in the Amateur Park Pleasure class. Medina wore out his third blue of the evening for Formac Stables. Hermono Gold and Bob Lawrence made the reserve win in the class for Blue Ribbon Stables and for owners Lawrence and Hutto.

Finish Line Farms’ horses sported three blue ribbons. Misses Twist Of Fate and Barbara Kenehan made the victory pass in the Amateur Riders On Show Pleasure Horses. The Kenehan’s were very excited because this was Barbara’s first win on a built-up horse. Kathy Owen and Elegance Pride made the reserve winning ride in the class. Sue Ann Dowell was in the irons and made the second win of the evening for Finish Line Farms. Pushin For A Heartattack was the Amateur Four-Year-Old Mares and Geldings Champion that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Hand Over The Cash and Sue Irby were the reserve champions in the competitive event. USA and Kaitlyn Fields Byrom wore the blue from the Youth Show Pleasure 17 and Under class. Fashion’s Midnight Threat and Danielle Potter were the next team to contend with in the class and they wore out the reserve ribbon in the class for trainer Mark Cambert and owner Kathy Potter.

Bill Bobo Stables followed suit with three blue ribbon winners. Bayou Bay and Chris Bobo made the first victory lap of the evening for the Bobo team. The talented three-year-old bested 14 other entries in the Three-Year-Old MASCUP class for owner Jack Mitchell. Push Too’s Cowboy and Know Blackburn were the reserve champions in the deep class for owner Gene Ramsey. Drs. Linda and Cliff Garrard own two winning entries that are prepared by Bobo. Gold Picture was awarded the blue in the Four-Year-Old MASCUP class with Bill Bobo in the irons for the Garrards. Julio’ Julio’ and Link Webb were the reserve winners in the class. The entry is owned by Donnie and Charlotte Tayler. Dr. Linda Garrard made the winning ride in the Open Amateur class on her talented classic horse Ebony’s Smoking Sun. Wasted Wages and Shane Cox were the reserve winners in the class for trainers Kurt Kovalick.

Miss Lindsey Landrum claimed the blue in the Youth Walking Seat Equitation class. Her winning ride was made aboard The Olympic Torch. Alex Bumpus and Settle The Score made up the next polished team to be reckoned with. Bumpus was coached by Faye Lynn Coffey and her horse was prepared by Tan View Stables.

Webb Stables prepared the Amateur Two-Year-Old Stallions winning team. Junior Walker made the good ride on Frivolous Cash. Black Magic’s Favorite and Erica Derickson made the reserve win in the class for owner Jack Doss and the Derickson Training Facility.

Sunny D and Travis Miller topped the Youth Country Pleasure class for Blue Ribbon Stables and owner Wayne Hall. The classic horse Coffee’s Moonshine and rider Mason Gassaway rode away with the reserve win in the class for Kasie Caldwell.

David Warner made an exciting win in the Amateur Four-Year-Old Stallions class on Dumas Dandy Dan. The entry was prepared by Charlie Witherspoon. The entry is backed by David and Kenneth Warner. The reserve ribbon in the class went to Cash Gordon and Shane Porterfield. Tan View Farms primed the entry.

Michele Mercer made the good ride on Marquita By Design in the Amateur Lite-Shod Two and Three-Year-Old class for Russ Keyser. Commanding Dakota and Dr. Judy Moore accepted the red ribbon in the class for Moore and Foust Farm.

Top Dollar Maid and Debbie Eichler won the competitive Amateur Two-Year-Old Mares and Geldings class. Rising Star Ranch prepared the entry that topped six others. Tyler Baucom and 4 1/2 Yards were the reserve champions in the class for Carrell Mullins and Baucom Stables.

Dee Dee Sale made the winning ride in the Amateur Three-Year-Old Stallions class. Monte Cristo walked his way to the winner’s circle for trainer Knox Blackburn and the Gilbert Miller family. Reserve in the nine entry class was Unwired Spark and Stephanie Rose. Rising Star Ranch prepared the entry for owners Rose and Williamson.

Pride’s Final Mark and Charlie Howard made another winning performance in the Country Pleasure class. Friday Night Mercedes and Connie Waldo were the reserve winners in the 15-entry class.

Dru McCormick piloted Pusher’s High Voltage to a sparking performance in the Walking Horse Trainers Auxiliary class for Mickey McCormick Stables. Owner Beckie Hicks was very pleased with their performance. Joyce Marie Green and Springs Starmaker were the reserve champions in this exciting class. Jeff Green trains the entry that is owned by Samantha and Corey Green.

Mac Christmas and A Generator’s Bum topped the Youth 12-17 class for Rising Star Ranch and owner Joe Christmas, Jr. Poncho Impact and Kaitlin Fields Byrom wore out the reserve ribbon.

Clay Mills traveled to Tennessee and topped the Amateur Walking Specialty class with Big Papa Cool. Baucom Stables trained the entry. ADA2D and Dr. Jim Baum had a tremendous ride and took home a red ribbon for Webb Stables.

Sonny Shoffner and Charlie Green teamed together to win the Pro-Am class. Freedom Fighter carried the riders to the victory circle. The entry is owned by Dennis and Rusty Shoffner. Sweetie Sky, James Vernon and Knox Blackburn were the reserve champions in the fun class.

Making the winning ride in the Walking Horse Trainers on Mules class was Ronal Young aboard Rosco. Joe Martin finished third in the class on Tin Cup. However, the crowd favorite Socks finished last. Mickey McCormick was the rider.

Way after midnight a crowd still hovered over the grandstands to watch the Stake class. Mr. Ramsey Bullington guided Spirits Midnight Rider to the win in the nine entry class. The Annie Williamson family owns the entry. Outer Limits and Knox Blackburn were the reserve champions in the class. The Kenneth Rich family owns and backs the entry.
