SUMMERTOWN, Tenn. – The Lawrenceburg Lions Club hosted the 43rd annual Jack Keltner Memorial Horse Show on Saturday, May 16, at the Summertown Saddle and Bridle Club show grounds. The show is held in memory of Jack Keltner, who passed away in 2002. Keltner was responsible for organizing the Summertown Saddle and Bridle Club in 1964 and served as the show’s chairman for 38 years. After a three-year absence, the Summertown show was brought back and ready to please. The threat of rain was in the back of everyone’s mind, but Mother Nature had other plans. The clouds parted and the sun beamed to make for a wonderful night for a horse show.

World Champion trainer Billy Young had the diligent task of marking the cards for the 30-class event. Charlie Green directed Freedom Fighter to the winner’s circle and claimed the top honor of Riders’ Cup Walking Horse Grand Champion. This was Green and Freedom Fighter’s third appearance in the show ring in 2009 for Dennis and Rusty Shoffner. Just two nights prior, this talented team received a reserve in the Riders’ Cup Walking Horse Stake class at Grinder’s Switch in Columbia, Tenn. Green is currently ranked second in the Riders’ Cup standings.
